Problem Statement:
In many hospitals, high-value medical products such as prostheses, implants, or surgical instruments are often provided on consignment or rented by suppliers. After usage—typically in operating rooms—the hospital is responsible for reporting the used items back to the supplier for billing and replenishment purposes. The process is prone to human error, and delays and could cause Inventory discrepancies (missing or unreported items) or Delays in replenishment.
Objective:
Automating the tracking process with IoT technologies ensures accurate, real-time identification of used items without relying on manual input. This reduces human error, streamlines billing, and guarantees timely replenishment of high-value medical supplies.
Solution:
Tag all high-value medical items with RFID tags and implement a designated return bin equipped with an RFID reader to automatically detect used items. This system will send real-time notifications to the replenishment department, ensuring accurate tracking, timely restocking, and reduced administrative burden.
